Quick Start

  1. Install HR Broadcast on both your iPhone and Apple Watch.
  2. On Apple Watch, open HR Broadcast and tap Start.
  3. On iPhone, make sure the BLE Broadcast toggle is on. The Watch status should turn green (Active).
  4. On your cycling computer or app (Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift, etc.), search for Bluetooth heart rate sensors and select HR Broadcast · iPhone.
  5. That's it — your heart rate is now broadcasting in real time.

The Watch status shows orange or blue — what do I do?

Open HR Broadcast on your Apple Watch and tap Start. The app needs an active workout session to read heart rate. The status will turn green once data is flowing.

My cycling app can't find "HR Broadcast · iPhone".

Make sure the BLE Broadcast toggle on the iPhone app is turned on, and that Bluetooth is enabled. Try turning the toggle off and on again. Some apps require you to search for sensors while the iPhone screen is on.

Heart rate disappears after a while.

If no data is received from the Watch for more than 15 seconds (e.g. you removed the watch), the app stops broadcasting to avoid sending stale data. Put your watch back on and it will resume automatically.

Can I use this without an Apple Watch?

No. HR Broadcast requires an Apple Watch to measure heart rate. The iPhone app acts as a Bluetooth bridge between the Watch and your cycling software.

Does this drain my Apple Watch battery?

HR Broadcast uses a background workout session on the Watch to continuously read heart rate, which does use more battery than usual. For most rides this is acceptable — the Watch behaves the same as any workout-tracking app.

Is my heart rate data sent to the cloud?

No. Heart rate data is only transmitted locally over Bluetooth to your cycling device. Nothing is sent to any server. See our Privacy Policy for details.
